We continue to work on environmental issues that will create a clean coal future.

RTEA’s Business Improvement Process (BIP) takes a team approach to business excellence by involving the employees in confronting cost pressures, delivering an economic product, and building a sustainable future. As our mine sites age, we face gradually increasing strip ratios, longer haul distances, difficult geology, increasing capital and operating costs, and a very competitive marketplace. The BIP helps

In early 2006, Kennecott Energy Company changed its corporate
name to Rio Tinto Energy America (RTEA). The change provides a more direct
recognition of the existing Rio Tinto Group affiliation. Rio Tinto has broad
recognition throughout the world as a leader in the mining and minerals industry
and an excellent reputation in areas vital to leveraging new and existing
development opportunities. The name change did not involve reorganization, nor
were there any associated changes in mining operations or staffing. Operating as
Rio Tinto Energy America, the company will continue its tradition as one of the
safest and most efficient energy producers in the world.
